Brazzil Magazine - Columnist: Ricardo C. Amaral

Updated: August 2, 2011

Author and Columnist: Ricardo C. Amaral

Here are the Internet website addresses where you can find a copy of some of my articles. Most of my articles have been published by Brazzil Magazine, RGE Monitor, ArabNews, The Brasilians, and various other newspapers and magazines; here in the United States and also in the Middle East.

ArabNews is one of the most influential newspapers on the Arab world.

Brazzil magazine is one of the most successful Brazilian magazines in the Internet, and they get an average of 60,000 readers per day. I receive emails and letters to the editor regarding my articles from people in the United States, Canada, Asia, Middle East, Europe, and also from people in Brazil.

RGE Monitor: Under the leadership of Professor Nouriel Roubini, RGE Monitor became a very prestigious and influential global economics website in a short period of time. RGE Monitor has been named one of the world's best economics websites by Business Week, The Economist, Forbes and the Wall Street Journal.

Most of my articles are about Brazilian history, the Brazilian economy, International economics and foreign affairs. Here are some of my published articles:

Why José Bonifácio de Andrada e Silva Is the Greatest Man in Brazilian History
Written by: Ricardo C. Amaral

I don't understand why on June 13, it's not a national holiday in Brazil to commemorate José Bonifácio's birthday. José Bonifácio de Andrada e Silva was born on June 13, 1763. In June 2013, Brazil is celebrating the 250th anniversary of the birth date of the greatest man in Brazilian history.

The Time Is Now for Brazil to Build a Strong Military! Just Hire Laid-off NASA Scientists”
Written by Ricardo C. Amaral

It's Imperative and a Matter of National Security For Brazil to Build a Strong Military ASAP”

...The Brazilian government has a great opportunity right now to build and fund its own defense and aerospace industry in Brazil, and leapfrog these industries into the future.

It's becoming obvious that Brazil should not buy any armament from foreigners; Brazil needs to build its own defense and aerospace industries, and today Brazil can accomplish that goal very easily.

The Brazilian government should award a major long-term multibillion dollar contract to Embraer's defense and aerospace subsidiary for them to develop and build a new line of fighter jets in Brazil, and drones for military use, as well as to catapult the Brazilian space program into the future.

Here is an article with recommendations about how to restructure the international monetary system to be more relevant for the economic realities of the new world of the 21st century.

RGE Monitor – July 9, 2009
“Brazil, China and the New Asian Currency”
Written by Ricardo C. Amaral

Basically, the International Monetary System that we have had for a few decades that revolves around the US dollar has finally reached the end of the line, and the current international monetary crisis was the last straw necessary for the world to realize that it needs a new redesigned international monetary system that would be compatible with the new realities of the 21st Century.

“Here Is Why Brazil Should Adopt the New Asian Currency”
Written by Ricardo C. Amaral

…Since December of 1998 I have been advocating and writing many articles saying that Brazil should adopt the euro as its new currency. But the world has been changing at the speed of light since then and everything is evolving very fast today.

In the last two years I have changed my mind regarding Brazil adopting the euro as its new currency, because the entire ball game has changed from the Brazilian perspective in the last few years, and in my opinion, in the near future, Brazil should adopt instead the "New Asian Currency," a new currency similar to the euro on its effort to adapt to the new global economic reality.

Maybe you will find interesting the article that I wrote about the coming worldwide economic depression.

Brazzil Magazine - February 2005
"It’s 2008. The US Has Dragged the World into a Depression."
Written by Ricardo C. Amaral

...During the second term of George W. Bush’s presidency, finally all the American mismanagement and mistakes did catch up with the American economy, and a number of trends merged into a perfect storm causing the final meltdown of the US economy.

The American economy went through a downward spiraling out of control implosion. Massive US government budget and trade deficits forced the Federal Reserve Bank to raise interest rates to try to stop the steep decline of the US dollar in world markets against other currencies.

...The world lost its confidence in the US economy because they realized that the US economy was over leveraged, and would not have the necessary cash flow to pay its bills in the future. The US economy was outsourcing its good paying jobs by the millions to other countries - in the last four years the US economy had exported over 10 million jobs. A flood of US corporations started reincorporating in tax havens to avoid paying US corporate taxes.

...the market dynamic of all these events combined to cause a major institutional collapse in the derivatives market, and that started a domino effect in the entire financial system causing a massive meltdown.

Panic among the major holders of US dollar also contributed to the stampede like we had never seen before - and at the end, Chernobyl looked like nothing when compared with the final meltdown of the US dollar, and US economy during the summer of 2008.

Here is an article that had a major impact in Brazil and in Saudi Arabia:

Brazzil Magazine - June 2003
“Dear Saudis, Play Safe Bring Your Money to Brazil”
Written by Ricardo C. Amaral

Note: When the above article was published I received an invitation at that time from the government of Saudi Arabia for me to visit Saudi Arabia and meet with the government officials responsible for Saudi Arabian investments.

I did not accept the invitation because of the Iraq war, but I did keep in contact with the Saudis that contacted me, and in the summer of 2004 I did meet with one of the senior Saudi officials here in New Jersey. He was going through an investment road show for his government here in the United States, and he stopped in New Jersey just to meet me in person.

“Building Bridges Between Brazil and the Arab World”
Written by Ricardo C. Amaral

… In June 2003, I wrote an article regarding “Brazil and Saudi Arabia” that caught the attention of the Brazilian State Department in Brazil.

They must have enjoyed reading my article, because as soon as the article was published in Brazzil magazine, on the same day, they posted a copy of my article in Brazil at the Brazilian State Department’s website.

Later, I also found out that my article had been circulated among members of the Saudi Arabian Royal family, and also among senior members of the Saudi Arabian government.

They enjoyed reading my article; and a week after my article was published, I received a letter from the Saudi Arabian government inviting me for a visit to Saudi Arabia.

You can read the article that caught the attention of so many people in the United States, in Brazil and in Saudi Arabia at the following website address: See above June 2003 article: “Dear Saudis, Play Safe, Bring Your Money to Brazil”

Should Brazil Adopt a New Currency?
By: Ricardo C. Amaral

…Today the amount of money that international speculators have under their management is becoming mind-boggling.

The amount of daily currency transactions in global markets is over $ 1.5 trillion dollars. The magnitude of daily currency transactions is a major contributing factor for many countries losing their capability to defend their weak currencies from foreign attack of these international money speculators.

These countries don't have the economic reserves necessary to defend their currencies from foreign speculative attacks. It is getting easier for these international speculators to destroy the entire economy of countries such as Russia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, South Korea, and Brazil.

All they have to do is destroy their currency and the economies undergo a complete collapse. It is a form of modern economic warfare.

Responses and other information regarding my articles:

As soon as my original article was published on Brazzil magazine in May 2002 – On the following issue of Brazzil magazine (June 2002) there was a response to my article written by Colonel Thomas J. Towle.

Brazil Needs the Bomb... Like a Hole in the Head
Written by: Thomas J. Towle
Saturday, June 01, 2002

Colonel Thomas J. Towle, the author, is a retired US Army officer who has served in a number of very responsible positions. In addition to his formal education, which includes a BS in Marketing, an MS in Management and Economics, and a Doctorate in Ministry, he attended the Army's Command & Staff College at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas.

He is a former Army aviator, who served as a company commander in Germany in the Third Armored Division, and as a Battalion Commander in Vietnam, culminating his career as the Army's Chief Armament Officer on the General Staff in the Pentagon.

He knows weapons! He hastens to add that he hopes Mr. Amaral realizes that his remarks (Tom's) are not "ad hominem," but simply a heartfelt response to any suggestion that Brazil should enter the atomic arena...a suggestion that almost moves Tom to tears.

He sees it as a sword of Damocles that will hang over the necks of every country that has nuclear weapons, including his own USA. He finally reminds us, as did our Cristo Redentor, that "those who live by the sword must die by the sword."

The Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton University is one of the top foreign policy and International Affairs study centers in the United States.

On page # 9 of “The Nonproliferation Review / Summer 2003” publication - which is published by Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton University - they refer to my article “We Need the Bomb” (May 2002) -

Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton University

Harold A. Feiveson is a senior research scientist, and co-director of the Program on Science and Global Security at the Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton University. Ernst Jan Hogendoorn is a PhD. Student at the Woodrow Wilson School.

Note: Princeton University - Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs.

A Brief History of the Woodrow Wilson School

The School of Public and International Affairs, as it was originally named, was founded at Princeton in 1930, created in the spirit of Woodrow Wilson's interest in preparing students for leadership in public and international affairs. Beginning in September 2005, the Woodrow Wilson School celebrates 75 years of preparing talented individuals for careers in the service of the nation and the world.

The School's initial venture was an interdisciplinary program for undergraduates in Princeton's liberal arts college, although a graduate professional program was planned from the beginning.

According to the School's first catalog from February 1930, "Throughout its history the sons of Princeton have been prominent in the service of the nation--statesmen, soldiers, judges, diplomats, men of science and men of letters, leaders of religious thought at home and abroad. It was this background which prompted Woodrow Wilson in 1896 to define the University's destiny as: 'Princeton in the Nation's Service'...Upon this foundation Princeton has established the School of Public and International Affairs which will...prepare [its students] for the new movement in national and world affairs."

The graduate professional program was added in 1948. That same year the School was renamed to honor Woodrow Wilson, the 28th president of the United States, who was a member of Princeton's Class of 1879, governor of the State of New Jersey, and the 13th president of Princeton University.

The phrase "Princeton in the Nation's Service" was the theme of two speeches Wilson gave at the University, first during its sesquicentennial celebration in 1896, and again at his inauguration as the University's president in 1902.

In the 1990s, the motto was expanded by then-president Harold T. Shapiro to read "Princeton in the Nation's Service, and in the Service of All Nations." It is a concept that Princeton and the Woodrow Wilson School regard as an educational mission.

… Today, the School educates a wide range of students from the U.S. and around the world who seek to apply their knowledge and skills to the solution of vital public problems in both the domestic and international realms.

It boasts a faculty of superb scholars and practitioners in disciplines that include politics, economics, sociology, psychology, physics, molecular biology, and geosciences, who, individually and as members of a variety of world-class research centers and programs, react to and influence the international and domestic environment through policy research, which in turn adds depth and vitality to the teaching program.

…The Woodrow Wilson School has thousands of alumni who are at the top of many different fields, from health care to development economics to foreign policy.
